Add, search and shortcuts
Two things are always in reach, wherever you are in Arca: the + to add something and Search everything.
The add menu
Section titled “The add menu”The round + next to the search field in the sidebar (the orange + in the middle of the tab bar on a phone) opens the add menu:
- Transaction: an expense, income or transfer.
- Recurring bill: something that comes back every month, quarter or year.
- Debt: something you owe, or something someone owes you.
- Goal: save towards something, or cap a category.
- Category: a new category for your transactions.
Each one opens right where you are, so you don’t lose your place. On a computer, Ctrl+N (⌘+N on a Mac) opens the menu too.
Search everything
Section titled “Search everything”Search everything in the sidebar (the magnifier at the end of the tab bar on a phone) searches the whole app, not just the page you’re on. It finds:
- transactions, by their description or the original bank text,
- categories,
- fixed costs (recurring items),
- debts.
Before you type, it shows quick actions such as Add transaction, Import CSV, Go to Budget and Go to Insights. Use ↑ and ↓ to move through the results and Enter to open one.

In date pickers, the arrow keys move between days and Enter picks one.
