Recurring, bills and payment plans
Recurring items are the things that come back: your salary, rent, insurance, subscriptions, a savings transfer. Arca matches them to your transactions, ticks them off when they’re paid, and uses them for your budget, Upcoming and the forecast.
Add one
Section titled “Add one”Use the + add menu → Recurring bill, Add a bill on Upcoming, or Make recurring on a transaction. All recurring items are listed in Settings → Recurring, with filters for income, bills, subscriptions, debts, savings and payment plans.
| Type | For |
|---|---|
| Income | Your salary, benefits, rent you receive |
| Bill | Rent, energy, insurance, phone |
| Subscription | Streaming, the gym, software |
| Debt | Repayments on a loan (see Debts) |
| Savings | A regular transfer to savings |
| Payment plan | One cost paid in parts (below) |
Each item has an amount, a frequency (once, daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly or yearly), a start date and optionally an end date. You can also give it a category, a budget type, a friendly name (shown on matched transactions instead of the bank’s name) and notes. Switch off Active to pause it.
Matching to your transactions
Section titled “Matching to your transactions”Arca ticks a recurring item off when a transaction matches it:
- Match pattern: text that appears in the bank’s description, for example “VATTENFALL”. Switch on Whole word only so a short pattern doesn’t catch longer names it happens to sit inside.
- Match amount: an exact amount, an amount between two numbers (for bills that vary), or any amount.
As you type, a chart shows which past charges the item would pick up, so you can check before you save. A matched transaction gets the recurring item’s category.
The item’s details show its last 12 charges, and call it out when the price changes.
Found by Arca
Section titled “Found by Arca”Arca looks for payments that come back every month by itself: well-known companies, and the same description in at least three different months with a similar amount. It adds them as recurring items marked Auto. Dismiss one you don’t want and it won’t be suggested again.
Payment plans
Section titled “Payment plans”A payment plan is one cost you pay in parts, like the dentist in three instalments or a new phone over twelve months.
- Choose the type Payment plan.
- Enter the total amount and the number of parts (2 to 60).
- Each part shows up in the month it’s due, in your budget, Upcoming and the forecast.
The plan shows its progress, for example “1 of 3 paid · €240 left”.
